LGBTQIA+ Pride Month Spotlight: Amy Headrick

LGBTQIA+ Pride Month Spotlight: Amy Headrick

What does Pride Month mean to you?

Pride Month to me means a celebration of love. It is an opportunity for all people to celebrate love, companionship, caring, compassion, and relationships. And it is a time for all of us to be proud to show and to share that love.

What does being an ally mean to you?

Being an ally means being a human being. It means getting to know, working with, and understanding people for who they are, not who they love. It means enriching my life by expanding my circle to include more love. And it means that an injustice against the LGBTQ+ community is an injustice to me.

What LGBTQ+ or ally mentors have inspired or influenced you and in what ways?

My daughter and her fiancé are my inspiration, my teachers, my mentors, my guides, and most importantly, my example. And truly, all of my children and their generation should be included. My daughter’s fiancé is trans; he is my son and I love him dearly. What I have witnessed in the love the two of them have for each other which has taught me once and for all that Love is Love. And Love is something we should all want more of, not less. He loves my daughter more than I could have hoped any person could love one of my children. How could I not want that for one of my children? How could we not want more relationships like theirs in our world? I am honored to have them as my mentors.
