Giving Back
In honor of hiring our 100th attorney, Tyson & Mendes established a charity program to give back across the country. As chosen by our employees, the T&M Giving program supports organizations committed to providing educational opportunities and resources to disadvantaged youth.
Charitable efforts as part of T&M Giving involve offsite volunteer work designed to get all employees out of their respective offices to donate their time and support our communities. In the spring of 2018, T&M Giving partnered with the Boys & Girls Club in eight cities to provide after-school tutoring to local students. During the fall of 2018, T&M Giving partnered with the Ronald McDonald House to serve meals to families of children with serious illnesses. Throughout 2019 our offices volunteered with children in their local communities. Volunteer hours were spent helping with homework, reading, playing games, and mentoring young minds.
Of course, T&M Giving’s volunteering looked a little different for 2020 and 2021. Since we could not serve our communities in person, we looked to virtual opportunities. In the spring of 2020, we sent hundreds of well-wishing letters to nursing homes throughout the nation. In the fall of 2020, we had the opportunity to work with Braven, an organization assisting low-income and first generation college students’ transition into the workforce. We conducted virtual mock interviews with students to prepare them for real life scenarios. After the interviews, students were able to ask questions and network. These interviews were not only helpful for the students, but also incredibly rewarding for our employee volunteers. We were able to work with Braven again in 2021 to provide the same amount of support for another group of students entering the workforce.
Through T&M Giving, employees also have the option to make monthly donations to a worthy cause. In 2018, employees voted to donate their collected funds to No Kid Hungry, an organization committed to ending childhood hunger. Founding Partners Bob Tyson and Pat Mendes matched the funds raised by the employees totaling $13,600! In 2019, we were able to donate $16,000 with Bob and Pat’s match to My Stuff Bags Foundation, an organization which provides bags of essential items to children in foster or crisis situations.
Despite the challenges of 2020, the third year of T&M Giving thrived! Our Giving Tuesday Campaign set an initial annual goal of $10,000, but the firm surpassed this goal, raising a total of $13,250. With Bob and Pat’s match, we donated $26,500 to First Star, an organization working to improve the life of foster youth by transitioning them into higher education and adulthood.
The firm employees get to vote on the charity which receives the donations each year. For 2021, the firm voted to support local charities where our offices are located. The Giving Tuesday Campaign raised $17,609 across 12 different local charities. With Bob and Pat’s match, this brings the number to $35,218 total donated!
Tyson & Mendes is proud to support these and other noble causes as we continue our strategic growth. We are all looking forward to giving back in 2022.
