Timothy Irving

Tim Irving is Senior Counsel in Tyson & Mendes’ San Diego office. Mr. Irving concentrates his practice on representing insurance carriers and corporate clients in high-stakes litigation. He has more than 25 years of courtroom experience representing clients in complex insurance coverage disputes, commercial litigation, professional liability, including directors and officers, and general liability claims. Prior to joining Tyson & Mendes, Mr. Irving was a litigation partner at an AmLaw 100 firm.

Mr. Irving has successfully litigated numerous multi-million cases in courts throughout the country. His most recent representative cases include: obtaining summary judgment for his client in U.S. District Court in Arizona in 2015, based on finding that pollution exclusion in commercial general liability policy barred coverage for groundwater contamination cleanup at a missile manufacturing site; obtaining summary judgment in U.S. District Court in California in 2014, ruling that administrative tribunal erred in awarding seven-figure interest sum to federal government under a Navy ship repair contract; securing a favorable settlement prior to the end of a jury trial in federal court in Minnesota in 2012 involving claims for defense and indemnity for $350 million class action on behalf of the excess insurer; successfully resolving all claims against client attorney in malpractice action, convincing plaintiffs to accept global settlement without any monetary contribution by client or client’s insurance carrier in 2010.

Mr. Irving received his law degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law, where he was co-chair of the Moot Court Honors Board and served as an extern law clerk to Justice Roger Connor of the Alaska Supreme Court. He is admitted to practice in California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Central and Eastern Districts of California. Mr. Irving holds an AV®-Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell® and has been recognized by San Diego Magazine as a “Top Lawyer” in Insurance Law for every year since 2013.

Mr. Irving is a past president of the Coronado Schools Foundation and, when not practicing law, enjoys spending time with his family and hiking with his dog.
