Kara Pape is the newest partner in Tyson & Mendes’ Los Angeles office. Formerly a partner in Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP’s general liability practice, Kara specializes in catastrophic personal injury defense; general liability defense; commercial vehicle litigation; and the defense of public entities where sexual torts are alleged, including child sexual assault and harassment. She has developed a reputation for being able to critically evaluate and obtain outstanding results for clients, and we are thrilled to have her! T&M: How did you get into the insurance defense industry?
KP: I was fortunate to receive an offer from a top insurance defense firm to be a law clerk after my first year of law school when the market was tight.
T&M: Why did you decide to join Tyson & Mendes?
KP: Bob Tyson monitored one of my trials for AIG. We kept in touch over the years and thought it would be great to work together.
T&M: What has been the biggest challenge of your career thus far?
KP: As I am sure any parent can attest: Juggling a career and family.
T&M: Similarly, tell us about your biggest professional accomplishment?
KP: Getting great trial results against some of the top plaintiffs’ attorneys, including securing a defense verdict in a trucking case arising out of an incident in which there were seven fatalities.
T&M: What did you want to be when you grew up?
KP: A top executive in the beauty and fashion industry.
T&M: What made you decide to pursue a career in law instead?
KP: I decided it was important to have a professional background that could serve any field or industry.
T&M: What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
KP: As a “baby attorney,” I was often told to keep my eyes and ears open and learn from every experience.
T&M: If you could travel anywhere in the world – all expenses paid – where would you go?
KP: Australia!
T&M: Any hidden talents to share?
KP: Finding humor in everything.
