Tyson & Mendes Opens in San Antonio, Second Office in Texas in as Many Months: Amanda James Named San Antonio Managing Partner; Stephen Haynes as Complex Trial Partner

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 21, 2023) Tyson & Mendes LLP, a thriving insurance and civil litigation defense firm with a growing national presence, announced today its second Texas office will open in San Antonio on Sept. 1, led by accomplished civil litigators Amanda James as San Antonio Managing Partner and Stephen Haynes as Complex Trial Partner. They are joined by Associate Sarah Lux. All three attorneys come to Tyson & Mendes from Lindow Stephens Schultz LLP.

James is a San Antonio native with over a decade of experience in first- and third-party insurance defense, personal injury and construction defect. She has tried many cases to verdict in both personal injury and property damage cases in state and federal courtrooms across Texas.

Prior to joining Tyson & Mendes, James practiced civil litigation at Lindow Stephens Schultz LLP for seven years. She also previously served as an Associate attorney for Sprott, Newsom, Lunceford, Quattlebaum, & Messenger LLP in Houston. James was nominated as 2023 Outstanding Woman in Law for Scene in SA Magazine and Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch-Texas.

James obtained her Juris Doctor from Florida Coastal School of Law, where she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board, Mock Trial team and received the award for Best Oral Advocate at the Thomas Tang Regional Moot Court Competition. While in law school, James also served as the internal vice president for the Student Bar Association and received a Law Student Recognition Award.

James is the fourth consecutive female to open a new Tyson & Mendes office as a managing partner – following Jacksonville, Florida and Houston, Texas in 2023, and Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2022 – which exemplifies the firm’s continued commitment to closing the gender gap in the male-dominated legal industry.

Haynes is a veteran trial attorney who has taken over 125 jury trials to verdict throughout his 35-plus year career, representing individuals, businesses and insurance companies in personal injury defense and commercial and business litigation. Prior to his role as Partner at Lindow Stephens Schultz, he served as Partner for Vidaurri, Lyde, Rodriguez & Haynes LLP in San Antonio for over 12 years.

Haynes is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, and the San Antonio Bar Association.  Haynes is also a member of the Hidalgo County Bar Association having practiced civil litigation in the Rio Grande Valley for 19 years of his career.  He served as Bar President of the HCBA from 1998-1999, earning a Presidential Citation from the State Bar of Texas for his leadership. Haynes graduated from the University of Texas and earned his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio.

“Texas is among the top 5 states in the country for Nuclear Verdicts®, and the opening of this second office in Texas so close on the heels of opening in Houston underscores Tyson & Mendes’ dedication to going where our clients need us to be,” said Strategic Managing Partner Robert Tyson. “We are thrilled to welcome Amanda, Stephen, and Sarah in San Antonio.
