SAN DIEGO (May 23, 2024) – Nationwide civil litigation and insurance defense firm Tyson & Mendes LLP has announced the promotions to regional managing partner for partners Randy Faust and Holly Howanitz.
Randy Faust is the firm’s new northeast regional managing partner, now overseeing New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Faust retains his role as managing partner for the firm’s New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut offices. Tyson & Mendes opened its office in Philadelphia in January to address the growing threat of Nuclear Verdicts® in the jurisdiction. Faust brings to the regional managing partner role more than 25 years of experience representing clients in all facets of insurance defense litigation.
Faust is well recognized for his success in the courtroom, successfully trying over 100 matters through to verdict, many of which involved wrongful death, traumatic brain injuries, catastrophic injuries, and other high-exposure matters. Faust is also a member of TM HALO®, the firm’s subsidiary focused on defending cases with the highest risk for Nuclear Verdicts®. He is regularly retained across the country to parachute in to handle complex trials – a skill which has made him one of the most successful defense attorneys in the nation. Faust earned his J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law.
E. Holland “Holly” Howanitz is the firm’s new southeast regional managing partner, overseeing offices in Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, and Jacksonville. She joined Tyson & Mendes in 2023, and serves as the managing partner for the Jacksonville office. She is also a partner in the Nashville office. Her practice focuses on premises liability, transportation, construction defect, professional malpractice, general and automobile negligence, and products liability. The firm’s presence in Florida has proven crucial in a jurisdiction known for being a “judicial hellhole,” facing an influx of case filings following last year’s passing of the state’s tort reform bill.
So far this year, Howanitz has delivered significant defense verdicts in multiple cases, saving clients millions. She was part of the trial team that delivered a verdict of less than one-fifth of the plaintiff’s asserted damages, saving the client more than $4 million. In another case, an admitted liability policy limits tender rejection case involving a rear-end auto accident, Howanitz and her colleagues delivered a verdict of just over one-tenth of the plaintiff’s asserted damages, saving the client nearly $1.2 million.
Howanitz has received an AV Preeminent® Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, in addition to countless other honors and awards. In 2023, she was recognized by Best Lawyers for her exceptionalism in Personal Injury Litigation and selected for Florida Trend’s Legal Elite – Women Leaders in Law. Howanitz obtained her J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law.
Serving 21 states nationwide, Tyson & Mendes is one of the fastest-growing civil defense firms in the U.S. and is proud to offer one of the fastest and clearest paths to partnership for its attorneys of any mid-sized law firm in the U.S. The firm is honored to be recognized as a 2024 Best Law Firm by Best Lawyers’, named a 2024 Best Company to Work for: Law Firm by U.S. News & World Report, awarded the 2023 Liberty Mutual Insurance External Law Firm Partner of the Year Award, awarded the No. 1 “Ceiling Smasher” in Law360’s 2022 Glass Ceiling Report for female equity partnership, and shortlisted for Financial Times’ 2022 Innovative Lawyers North America Award.
