On Thursday, April 19, Tyson & Mendes hosted its first ever half-day CE/CLE seminar, Trending Topics and Year in Review. Over one hundred attendees joined us for an afternoon of education and networking.
Over lunch, we kicked off the program with a discussion on what businesses and insurers should know about the new recreational cannabis laws now in effect in several western states. Next, we discussed the recently repealed law that imposed caps on non-economic damages in Florida medical malpractice cases. Then we provided an overview of the current state of autonomous vehicle liability litigation and predictions on how it will affect the insurance industry for the coming years. Next, we shared the latest on insurance bad faith in the West. Finally, we provided updates and takeaways for employers and insurers on gender discrimination and harassment in the wake of the #MeToo movement.
Founding Partner Pat Mendes (San Diego, CA) began the second half of the program with updates on California law relevant to insurers and businesses. Subsequently, we led a brief update on Howell developments that unfolded over the last year with respect to recoverable medical damages in California. Lastly, Managing Partner Bob Tyson (San Diego, CA) led an interactive presentation in which the audience guessed the results of three jury trials from the past year. The afternoon concluded with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails overlooking the beautiful New York harbor.
