What does Pride mean to you?
Pride means living as authentically as I can in all areas of my life. It means leaning into spaces and relationships where people accept and embrace me as I am. It means remembering all of those who have lost their lives because of how they identified with respect to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. It means celebrating how far we have come and recognizing all of the work that still needs to be done.
Tell us about your role/work at Tyson & Mendes.
I’m a Recruiting Coordinator on the Talent Acquisition team. My work involves interfacing with candidates, creating positive candidate experiences, automating and streamlining our hiring process, and working with our hiring data. My work also involves sourcing candidates and finding the best talent for our growing firm.
In what ways does Pride influence your work?
Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community has helped me consider the work I do through a DEI lens. It helps me think about how we can improve the diversity within our candidate pool and the diversity within our firm. Since my role focuses on candidate experience, it reminds me to take simple actions such as including my pronouns in my email signature and addressing candidates by the names and pronouns they’ve shared to let them know that Tyson & Mendes is an inclusive workplace. Most importantly, it has taught me to always treat people with kindness and respect.
