2025 Jacksonville Board Certified Attorneys

Attorney at Law Magazine – August 11, 2025

Holly Howanitz is the southeastern regional manager for Tyson & Mendes, LLP. She has been a practicing civil trial lawyer since 2005 and is licensed in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. Howanitz is a member of the executive committee of the American Board of Trial Lawyers, Jacksonville Chapter. She has been named to several lists, including Florida Trend’s Legal Elite – Women Leaders in the Law in 2023 and 2024. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking and traveling with her husband and son as well as interior design and home renovations.

What drew you to civil trial law?
I have wanted to be a trial lawyer since I was a small child. My first memory of wanting to do trial work was from watching the old show Matlock. I did some internships in law school where I quickly learned that criminal law was not for me and then switched my focus to civil litigation. I have always enjoyed civil litigation and trial and I’m very happy with the career path I chose.

What inspired you to seek board certification? Would you ever try to become board certified in another practice?
There are a lot of designations that lawyers can achieve but board certification seems to be one of the designations that is the most meaningful. Civil trial is what I specialize in, so I have not really thought about becoming board certified in another area. I never say never though.

What next milestone do you hope to accomplish in your professional career?
As it relates to my next milestone, I would like to continue to expand our presence in Florida and perhaps open another office or two in cities where our clients have the need for quality representation. Since I have joined Tyson & Mendes, we have grown from six attorneys in the southeastern region to 33 attorneys and I would like to see our expansion continue.
