Tyson & Mendes Adds Experienced Trial Partner Robert M. O’Malley and Associates in Fort Lauderdale: The Addition of the Former Wicker Smith Team Further Strengthens Leading Nationwide Defense Firm’s Trial Capabilities in the Sunshine State

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (August 16, 2023)Tyson & Mendes LLP, one of the nation’s fastest-growing insurance and civil litigation defense firms, welcomes Robert M. O’Malley as Partner and Associates Amaia Sanz de Acedo and Alexandra Bendayan in the firm’s Fort Lauderdale office. All three were previously with Wicker Smith. Their addition highlights the continued expansion of Tyson & Mendes in the Sunshine State, underscoring the firm’s commitment to meeting client needs in Florida due to the tidal wave of new lawsuits filed ahead of monumental tort reform laws earlier this year.

With more than two decades of legal and trial experience, O’Malley’s practice focuses on automotive negligence, trucking and transportation, civil litigation and premises liability, as well as the defense of personal injury claims involving surgical procedures, traumatic injury and catastrophic loss. He has defended and tried cases throughout the State of Florida, delivering successful results in trial, settlement, mediation, and arbitration for clients. Prior to his eight-year tenure at Wicker Smith, O’Malley served as a Partner at Adams, Adams, Baca and McMillen in Miami, where he managed the Broward office and practiced civil litigation and personal injury defense for nearly 10 years.

“Our firm continues to advance strategic efforts to grow in ways that meet our clients’ needs by bringing the best trial attorneys to our team. The addition of Rob’s team comes just a few months after the launch of our Jacksonville office and a year after launching our Tampa office,” said Strategic Managing Partner Robert Tyson. “Rob’s impressive trial experience, along with the support from two talented associates, deepens and broadens our already strong bench of trial attorneys in Fort Lauderdale, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the firm to serve the growing needs of our clients in the region.”

O’Malley graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Florida International University in 2001. He also earned his Juris Doctor from Florida International University College of Law in 2005 as a member of the first class. While in law school, he participated in the Moot Court Competition with honors and was on the Board of Advocates. He was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2010. He is a member of the Florida Bar, American Bar Association, Broward County Bar Association, and Dade County Bar Association.

Ms. Sanz De Acedo is a rising star who has tried complex cases involving catastrophic loss and traumatic brain injury.  Among her many outstanding accomplishments was a Summary Judgment in the case of Alexander Atteberry v. Progressive Express Insurance Company, which is the seminal case in Florida governing Uninsured Motorist Coverage for Rideshare Companies.  Sanz de Acedo graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in English. She earned her Juris Doctor from Florida International University College of Law, placing on the Dean’s list for three consecutive years and graduating cum laude. She was the executive business editor of the FIU Law Review and a member of the FIU Moot Court Team.
