Niesha I. Esene

Niesha I. Esene is Senior Counsel in Tyson & Mendes’ Albuquerque office, where she brings extensive trial experience and a versatile litigation background spanning both civil and criminal matters.

Ms. Esene’s practice draws on years of courtroom advocacy, strategic motion practice, evidentiary hearings, bench and jury trials, and complex case assessment. Her broad litigation background allows her to evaluate cases from multiple angles, develop practical risk-based strategies, and position matters for efficient and effective resolution on behalf of her clients. Ms. Esene focuses her practice on the defense of catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice, and premises liability matters on behalf of insurers and corporate clients. Throughout her career, Ms. Esene has achieved meaningful results for her clients through strong advocacy, careful case analysis, and strategic negotiation. She has secured dismissals and other favorable outcomes through targeted motion practice. In her prior insurance defense practice in Nevada, she independently managed an active docket of personal injury, medical malpractice, and premises liability matters, defending and taking depositions of plaintiffs, treating providers, and retained experts, and resolving cases favorably at mediation. With 28 jury cases tried to verdict at the district court level, Ms. Esene brings substantial in-court experience that sharpens her judgment at every phase of litigation. She is admitted to practice in New Mexico and brings a multi-jurisdictional perspective shaped by her work in both New Mexico and Nevada. Ms. Esene is a member of the New Mexico Trial Attorneys Association, the New Mexico Black Lawyers Association, and the New Mexico Young Lawyers Association, and serves as a board member for The Salvation Army in Roswell.

Ms. Esene obtained her LL.M. in Gaming Law and Regulation from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She obtained her J.D. from Arizona Summit Law School, where she received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Evidence, and her B.A. with a double major in Theater Arts and Communications from the University of Houston, where she graduated cum laude on a Thespian Acting Scholarship.

In her free time, Ms. Esene enjoys spending time with her family and staying active in her community. A longtime community theater actress, she also enjoys the arts, mentorship, and service.
