Michael Mize
Michael Mize is an Associate in Tyson & Mendes’ San Francisco Bay Area office. His practice focuses on catastrophic injury defense, employment practices litigation defense, habitability defense, and wrongful death defense.
Prior to joining Tyson & Mendes, Mr. Mize was a criminal defense attorney and honed the necessary skill set to be highly successful in civil litigation. Because of his extensive research and knowledge, he has been able to successfully negotiate hundreds of criminal case resolutions, significantly reducing the disciplinary sentence below the client’s exposure. In numerous cases, Mr. Mize was able to negotiate with the District Attorney’s office to stipulate to the client receiving alternatives to In-Custody or CDCR sentencing such as Recovery Court, Veteran’s Court, Military Diversion, Mental Health Court, or Mental Health Diversion. Mr. Mize’s litigation experience includes Preliminary Examinations and associated Romero motions, arguing motions under Penal Code 995, 1385, and 17(b), and trial.
Mr. Mize obtained his J.D. from Purdue University Global Concord Law School in 2018, where he graduated with Highest Honors and received the coveted Jack Goetz Award for the J.D. graduate with the highest GPA. He was also selected for and actively participated in Honors Moot Court, winning the McGeorge Law School’s 2017 Roger J. Traynor Moot Court Competition award for Best Written Brief. Mr. Mize obtained his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy in 1985 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, where he was pilot throughout his 20 years of service to the nation. He flew multiple helicopters, fixed-wing and V-22 Ospreys (tiltrotors).
In his free time, Mr. Mize enjoys spending time with his bride, kids, and grandkids. He also enjoys skiing, tennis, bowling, and singing.
