Matt Velasquez
Matt Velasquez is an Associate in Tyson & Mendes’ San Diego office.
Mr. Velasquez has supported litigation at various stages—from investigation through pretrial motions and discovery—both in private firms and government settings. At the City of San Diego’s Office of the City Attorney, Mr. Velasquez worked on litigation involving public entities, assisting with discovery, pretrial motion practice, and negotiation strategy. At a civil litigation firm, he helped prepare cases for trial by drafting discovery, organizing evidence, and analyzing claims in business and contract disputes. Earlier in his career, he assisted in investigating wrongful conviction claims at the California Innocence Project, where he gained early exposure to high-stakes litigation and evidentiary issues. He is licensed to practice in California and is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
Mr. Velasquez obtained his J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2020. He obtained his B.A. in Psychology from San Diego State University.
Outside of work, Mr. Velasquez enjoys spending time with his family and their dogs, often at the beach or exploring local parks. He also serves on the Board of the High Tech High Foundation, supporting innovative educational programs, scholarships, and community outreach at the school his children attend.
