Timothy Smyth

Timothy Smyth is Senior Counsel in Tyson & Mendes’ Northern California office. His practice focuses on personal injury, general liability, civil rights, construction defect, premises liability, landlord-tenant, products liability, and public entity defense.
Mr. Smyth defends his clients in all aspects of civil litigation, from case inception through trial. Prior to joining Tyson & Mendes, Mr. Smyth obtained numerous defense verdicts as a Deputy City Attorney, including in a federal civil rights case involving claims of excessive force by police officer defendants. Mr. Smyth is an aggressive litigator who draws success from identifying issues early in a case and developing sensible and pragmatic legal strategies to achieve the best possible resolution. Mr. Smyth has successfully saved his clients hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of his practice. He is licensed to practice law in the State of California, the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Northern Districts of California, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Smyth graduated from the University of California, Davis, in 2004 with a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Political Science. He obtained his J.D. from the Golden Gate University School of Law in 2008, with a Specialization Certificate in Intellectual Property. In his senior year, he was elected president of the school’s Intellectual Property Law Association.
In his free time, Mr. Smyth enjoys spending time at home with his wife and three daughters. He also enjoys board games, video games, and binge-watching Netflix.
