James J. Cupero is Senior Counsel in Tyson & Mendes’ Phoenix office. Bringing more than 35 years of litigation experience, his practice focuses on complex litigation, personal injury, and wrongful death.
Mr. Cupero began his career in New York City defending physicians and hospitals as a trial attorney with a preeminent midtown defense firm. He has tried in excess of 35 significant malpractice and personal injury claims to verdict as lead counsel. Mr. Cupero was awarded the coveted Martindale Hubbell “AV Rated, Super Lawyer” status in 2004 and has maintained that status to date. On the appellate level, he briefed and orally argued the seminal decision restricting a patient’s right to extend the time within which to commence a medical malpractice action in New York upon discovery of a foreign object. Mr. Cupero has lectured at national medical conventions on risk management and has served as legal editor and contributor to Podiatry Management Magazine and Ophthalmology Management Magazine.
Mr. Cupero is a graduate of Villanova University where he earned his B.A. with honors in 1976 and his J.D. in 1979. He was admitted to practice in New York in 1980 and is admitted to practice in all Arizona and New York State and Federal Courts as well as the Supreme Court of the United States.
