Today we are introducing one of our newest partners in San Diego: Susan Mason! Sue is a veteran trial lawyer who brings nearly 30 years of experience working with insurance carriers and their insureds, evaluating and trying cases and working toward favorable outcomes for her clients short of trial. She has litigated hundreds of civil matters throughout the course of her career. Her practice focuses on personal injury, product liability, employment, and the defense of nonprofit organizations. T&M: Tell us about your legal background and how you got your start in the insurance defense industry?
SM: I was lucky. My first job as an attorney with an insurance defense firm. I worked there for four years before starting my own insurance defense practice with my friend/partner, Lindsay Brack. We closed our firm after 24 years when Lindsay retired.
T&M: What drew you to Tyson & Mendes?
SM: I had been following the growth of Tyson & Mendes for a while and was impressed with the emphasis placed on being the best insurance defense firm. I also appreciated the willingness to share the T&M Methods with the insurance defense industry as a whole.
T&M: Compared to other firms you have worked for, what makes Tyson & Mendes so unique?
SM: The training, education, and sense of purpose.
T&M: What did you want to be when you grew up?
SM: A lawyer or pediatrician.
T&M: Why did you decide to become a lawyer instead?
SM: My grades in science classes.
T&M: What advice would you give to young attorneys who are just starting in this field?
SM: Be kind!
T&M: Where are we most likely to find you on a weekend afternoon?
SM: Having a glass of wine with friends.
T&M: Where is your favorite place in San Diego to take out-of-town guests?
SM: Balboa Park.
