SAN DIEGO (Jan. 15, 2018) – Civil defense firm Tyson & Mendes LLP has announced four promotions in its San Diego headquarters, elevating Justin Evenson from Senior Counsel to Team Leader, Jessica Heppenstall from Team Leader to Senior Team Leader, and Kelly Denham from Associate to Team Leader.
In his new role, Evenson will lead a multi-attorney litigation team, while continuing to focus his practice on general liability and commercial litigation. He has extensive litigation experience, representing individuals, businesses and public entities in California state courts, and has successfully resolved a variety of cases involving complex business, personal injury and insurance coverage disputes. One such success includes his assistance as second chair for the defense in a jury trial involving a nuanced business fraud matter against an investment firm. The case resulted in a full defense verdict.
Heppenstall has been elevated to a level above Team Leader. In her new role, she will continue to lead a multi-attorney litigation team while acting as a specialist handling matters exclusively for one of the firm’s top clients. Prior to her promotion, she successfully negotiated a settlement saving the insurer $1.5 million in a UIM claim involving a lost limb and alleged brain injury. In addition, she was part of the Tyson & Mendes litigation team who won several summary judgments motions, one involving over $100 million in damages.
As a Team Leader, Denham will oversee a multi-attorney litigation team while continuing to manage a full case load. Ms. Denham has successfully resolved several multi-million-dollar personal injury matters within insurance policy limits where claimed damages greatly exceeded the limits. She briefed, argued, and won an anti-SLAPP matter before the Fourth District Court of Appeal. Ms. Denham also successfully argued and won a Motion for Summary Judgment attacking causation, effectively dismissing the case prior to trial.
“As our presence expands around the country, it is important for us to recognize the talent and commitment of those based in our San Diego headquarters,” said Tyson & Mendes Managing Partner Robert Tyson. “Tracey, Justin, Jessica, and Kelly are key members of our San Diego team, and have been invaluable in our mission in achieving justice for all.”
Evenson previously worked as an attorney for several San Diego civil defense firms before joining Tyson & Mendes in 2016. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of California at Santa Barbara and his juris doctor from California Western School of Law, where he was a member of the Business Law Society and the Moot Court Honors Board. He is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, and was previously awarded “Best of the Bar” by the San Diego Business Journal.
Heppenstall earned her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2008. She also earned her B.A., cum laude, from the University of California, Berkeley in Legal Studies.
Denham earned her J.D. in 2012 from Loyola Law School. She is licensed to practice law in California. She is a member of the San Diego Defense Lawyers’ Organization.
