Position: San Diego Associate 

Job Description:
TYSON & MENDES is looking for an EXPERIENCED DEFENSE ATTORNEY to join our team of litigators. This position is located in the SAN DIEGO office but requires travel to several jurisdictions within California. A successful candidate would already have excelled in defending civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on personal injury law and will be ready to hit the ground running.

Position Responsibilities:
• Be able to develop a theme that is more compelling than any plaintiff ploy for sympathy or anger
• Be unwilling to accept mediocrity or the average or the standard or the norm in anything
• Reasonable billable hours, with an emphasis on quality and success
• Ability to manage full case handling responsibilities, including all facets of discovery and trial
• Independently handle court appearances, depositions, briefs, and trials
• Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences
• Routine communications with clients
• Cultivate relationships with the Firm’s existing and future clients
• Provide leadership and direction with respect to less experienced attorneys

Position Requirements:
• JD from an ABA approved school
• Must be licensed in CA
• Must have 3 plus years of solid litigation experience, specifically with litigation support, deposition and trial preparation
• Experience handling insurance defense matters preferred
• Experience with time management systems
• Proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Ability to think and act independently and with minimal supervision
• Outstanding listening, verbal and written communication skills

Position: San Diego Litigation Paralegal

Job Description:
TYSON & MENDES is looking for an EXPERIENCED PARALEGAL to join our team of litigators. This position is located in our SAN DIEGO office. A successful candidate would already have worked in a fast-paced defense firm focused on civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on personal injury law and will be ready to hit the ground running.

Position Responsibilities:
• Ability to assist attorneys with propounding and responding to discovery (interrogatories, requests for admissions, and request for production, subpoenas, and preparing deposition binders) and motions (preparation of any supporting documents and exhibits, and preparing hearing binders)
• Ability to manage trial preparation including: coordination of witnesses and travel, trial exhibits, charts, trial notebook, subpoenas, and page lines
• Independently obtain, review and organize medical records/medical billings, calculate damages including medical expenses, lost wages and property damage
• Work as part of a team with all levels of experiences
• Routine communications with clients and attorneys about case status and preparation

Position Requirements:
• Paralegal certification
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a litigation paralegal
• Solid understanding of CA civil litigation (state and federal deadlines and rules)
• High proficiency in MS Suite, specifically Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat

Position: San Diego Billing Specialist

Job Description:
TYSON & MENDES is looking for a Legal Billing Specialist to join our Accounting Department located in our San Diego office. A successful candidate has relative experience working in a law office or professional services firm. The Legal Billing Specialist is responsible for editing, compiling, and submitting attorney billing. Expectations for this candidate are inclusive of, but not limited to, proficiency with Microsoft Office, knowledge of client-based electronic billing platforms, and experience with ProLaw Enterprise (or a comparable legal billing software). Successful candidates must be comfortable communicating with staff, attorneys, clients and vendors in both written and verbal methods.

Position Responsibilities:
• Review and edit pre-bills in response to attorney requests; execute preparatory tasks necessary to submit bills electronically, split bills between clients, apply retainer funds, etc.
• Compile and bill attorney/paralegal hours to firm clients periodically
• Submit electronic bills through billing websites; resolve any submission issues
• Maintain the ability to produce a high volume of bills per cycle
• Ability to review/confirm accuracy of billing and supporting documentation as necessary
• Demonstrate a willingness to research, troubleshoot and respond to billing issue inquiries
• Effectively utilize billing guidelines provided by clients; ensure accuracy and adhere to client expectations inclusive of rates, billing frequency, cost management, etc.
• Communicate regularly with Accounting Manager to ensure billing expectations are met
• Work collaboratively with other Billing Specialists to establish short and long-term projects/initiatives related to billing.
• Handle billing exceptions and ensures timely submission of bills and appeals while working closely with professional staff.
• Understand technical aspects of billing software and troubleshoot any issues with billing software.

Position Requirements:
• 3+ years billing experience at a professional services firm, legal billing experience required
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (emphasis on Excel and Outlook)
• Experience with legal billing software; preferably ProLaw Enterprise
• Ability to multitask, organize work flow, and use time efficiently
• Ability to prioritize, anticipate work needs, and show strong attention to detail
• Experienced with electronic billing, submissions, budgeting, and appeals
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to maintain calm disposition in high stress environment
• Willingness to learn; flexibility to adapt to all situations
