Tyson & Mendes Obtains Defense Verdict in $23 Million Toxic Tort Jury Trial

LOS ANGELES (July 2017) – In a carefully watched case, a Ventura County Superior Court jury rejected a $23 million demand following a contentious 10-week toxic tort trial, determining that three companies were not liable for a boy’s birth defects after his mother claimed she was exposed to pesticides. Tyson & Mendes’ Los Angeles partner Kevin Place and San Diego associate Kathryn Lee defended the trial along with three other defendants against a minor plaintiff – represented by Waters Kraus & Paul – who alleged in-utero exposure to toxic chemicals had resulted in permanent disabilities.

Tyson & Mendes Buys La Jolla Office Building for $4,750,000

SAN DIEGO, CA – Law firm Tyson & Mendes announced the expansion of their San Diego offices with the acquisition of the building at 5786 La Jolla Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037. The buyers were San Diego attorneys Bob Tyson and Pat Mendes who formed the Golden Turtles LLC for the purchase. The buyers were represented by broker Chris Musgjerd with Savills Studley. The seller of the 7,900 sqft, two story building with ocean views was Mesh Properties LLC. In 2003, the building was converted to office space from its former use as Milligan’s Restaurant. Former tenants included the Ted Waitt Foundation and Avalon Capital Group Inc.
